4 Signs Your Air Conditioning System is Failing

central air conditioning unitsThe hot temperatures are here and we’re not expecting them to go anywhere soon. Your air conditioning system is running consistently and is being adjusted as the days get hotter, which can overwork the system and cause problems. Even if you’ve received your yearly air conditioning maintenance, there is no guarantee you won’t experience issues or failure of your system. To help catch major issues before your system fails and you’re left with no cool air, keep an eye out for these four signs.

Your Air Conditioning Won’t Turn On

There’s nothing worse than coming home after a long day and hot commute than to a home that is the same temperature as outside. Even after turning the system off and back on, the air conditioning still isn’t turning on and cooling down your house as it’s supposed to. Before going into panic mode, replace the battery in your thermostat and turn it to “cool”. If this doesn’t work, check your circuit breaker!

If your air conditioning still won’t run, there could be an issue with the wiring. Give your HVAC technician a call to check for loose or broken wiring.

Your System is Making Excessive Noises

Has your air conditioning system started to make loud, excessive noises that you can’t find the cause of? This can be due to a few things, the most common being leaves, dirt, and debris (i.e. twigs) being stuck in the system. If this isn’t the case, the motor bearings or fan might need to be replaced.

You’re Experiencing Uneven Temperatures Throughout Your Home

Over time, air filters can get clogged, causing uneven air flow through your home. If you’re still experiencing uneven temperatures in your home even after replacing the filter, there could be a leak around the filter which can cause loss of cool air and high energy bills.

Your System is Not Blowing Out Cool Air

If you’ve made the repairs that we have mentioned above, it’s time to consider the cost of continuing to repair the system versus the cost to replace it. Your HVAC technician will be able to provide you with their professional opinion on what to do and a quote for a new system!
